Dear C&MA Family;

As a pastor, I remember many occasions where I was tasked with sharing news that many would likely not want to hear. Sometimes relating to a staff transition, or a significant prayer need, or the loss of a beloved member. This feels like one of those times for me. Seventeen months ago, I was asked by then-President David Hearn to consider filling a two-year term to serve as your District Superintendent. It was a difficult decision for my family, but one we deeply sensed the Lord was asking us to make. In complete transparency, our move to Ontario has exceeded every expectation. We have almost immediately felt at home here in the District. We’ve been extended grace and kindness at every turn. We actually have loved Ontario and the beauty of the province and its people. A decision that made very little sense from a human perspective has proven to be a fantastic gift to our souls. But some gifts have a bit of a shelf life to them, and I’m writing this to let you know that my time as your DS will come to a conclusion at the end of July 2023.

There has been significant conversation and prayer in the Trigg household over whether or not the Lord might be asking us to consider submitting our name to the Nominating Committee to be considered as a candidate to serve as DS for the next four years. There are many reasons why we considered this possibility, but at the end of the day, we felt like the Lord was saying that there is someone else to take this District to the places and spaces it needs to get to. The reasons for this being a difficult decision are legion but mostly revolve around emerging friendships and a deep belief that we are always better together. I see much evidence from Thunder Bay to Huntsville to Windsor and in virtually every region within those boundaries, that God is at work. It seems like rarely a month goes by where Regan isn’t talking about another potential new venture possibly emerging. The stories of baptisms keep coming. Missions trips are once again being planned. We continue to license really great new workers virtually every month. God is at work in our District, through our people! This brings me profound joy and hope for the future. Joyce and I have received so much love and encouragement, and prayer, and it truly has been one of the great experiences of our lives to serve alongside you.

So what happens next? Something called “Nomination Papers” will be published and posted later this week for potential candidates to express interest in the role of DS. DEXCOM has struck a nominating committee that will prayerfully reflect upon future leadership decisions. Our District Staff Team will continue to serve you with great passion and expectation. I will be here for the next eight months and will do all I can to help you be the leader God desires you to be so we can, together, build the church that Jesus gave His life to build. Joyce and I are not sure what the future will hold for us, but to use an overused phrase, we are deeply confident in the One who holds all of our futures. We do sense deeply that the Lord is calling us back west to help care for our family there. I still feel like I have one leadership service left within me but will wait to see how that will unfold. We covet your prayers for that process.
I know a leadership transition usually makes people either glad, sad or mad. I don’t know where you will land in this news, but please know that you are loved, valued, treasured and deeply appreciated. I also know that the District is the Lord’s, and He will raise up the next leader to take us to the places we need to get to. I have great confidence in that. I know that I feel a significant measure of sadness about my decision.

Joyce and I are deeply grateful for each of you. Your expressions of love and concern and prayer mean the world to us.

Seeking Him first always,

Ian Trigg
