We Had Hoped

Luke 24:21
How hard to walk a bleak road
Do you not know?
the path before us uphill
Have you not heard?
With talk of dreams all past tense
our feet come to a standstill
A once-bulging heart like a punctured
waterskin dribbles thin
& it’s pointless to refill until made new
But what if we’re wrong
about being wrong? What if we let our
hearts again burn within us?
