Ralph and Ruth Shareski

Our God Story

To influence, equip, and release disciple-making disciples of Jesus Christ fuelled by apostolic vision, prophetic insight, and the love of Christ who multiplies missional communities in Heidelberg and beyond!

Ralph grew up in the West, calling Surrey, BC, home. Ruth grew up in Hamilton, ON. They met while attending Canadian Bible College (CBC) in Regina, SK and later, while both were serving in churches in BC, began the relationship that led to marriage in 1981.

They served together in ministry in BC and then completed further theological education before heading to Mannheim, Germany in 1987. Together, they have three adult children who are all married.

Ralph was brought up as a pastor’s son. His first life-giving encounter with the Holy Spirit happened at the age of 15 and was baptized shortly after. At the age of 18, while attending a Bible school in Sweden and visiting Germany, he received a clear call to serve God vocationally in Germany. Ruth also grew up in a believing family, had a breakthrough experience with God at the age of 15, and, while living with her family for one year in Great Britain, developed a love for Europe.

Both Ralph and Ruth were impacted as children by international workers (IW) who visited their churches, and because of exposure to Europe in their youth, God tuned their hearts for this continent.

Ralph and Ruth live in the southwest region of Germany where the Rhein and Neckar rivers merge. It is an area known as the Rhein-Neckar-Triangle and is famous for its inventions (Mercedes Benz, Heinrich Lanz Bulldog tractor, and the first bicycle). It boasts one of the most moderate climates of the country and a population of over 2 million. The city of Heidelberg is a university city—with a opulation of 150,000 and over 35,000 students—the highest student populated city per capita in Germany.

In their ministry, Ralph and Ruth focus on discipleship training, leadership development, evangelism, and planting missional communities.

The Shareskis spent their first twenty years as IWs living in Mannheim. They served as team leaders for Germany and also planted the church known as “Haus des Herrn” (http://www.hdh-mannheim.de).

What they love most about being IWs is the chance to invest in a new generation of German and international students whom God is raising to be worshipping warriors on behalf of the nations of the earth!
