Mike and Cindy Schmidt
Our God Story
Being brought up in Christian families who were involved in the church, both Mike and Cindy accepted Christ at a young age. Upon the completion of high school, God directed Mike to college to gain computer and networking qualifications while Cindy attended university and completed her bachelor’s degree, followed by teachers college.
During their post-secondary education, both Mike and Cindy went through challenging experiences that had a significant impact on their lives, and they drew closer to God and experienced His love, care, and power.
For Mike, the school that he was attending went bankrupt, leaving himself and the other students with great financial loss and no other convenient means of completing their education. Cindy was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor, which required surgery, radiation, and chemo.
It was during these low times when they grew stronger in their faith, and they learned to trust God and follow His directing. They found that they wanted to follow and serve God wherever He would lead them, and He directed them into the process of becoming international workers (IWs).
God gave them a love for the Cambodian people in 2012 when they spent three months in Cambodia teaching English and computer classes to university students. From 2013 to 2015, they taught at the ECC (Student Centre), learned the language, developed friendships, and shared the love of God.
As of February 2016, they will be serving in Cambodia as long-term IWs. Pray for them as they learn Khmer, the national language, while they connect with university students in Phnom Penh.
