The Alliance has been a founding member of the Canada Foodgrains Bank since 1983. Canada Foodgrains partners with the Canadian government to provide a Christian response to world hunger.
Owen Sound Alliance Church hosts an annual Family Fun Day at the Farm community event to sponsor Harvest for Hunger campaigns. This year’s event took place on September 24 and featured activities for the whole family, including a corn maze, face painting, pick-your-own-pumpkin from the pumpkin patch, horse and buggy rides, food and more, and brought in $10,000 in donations. Over the past eight years, Owen Sound Harvest for Hunger has raised over $200,000 which the government matched up to a 4:1 ratio.
Jesus’ ministry on earth met the spiritual and physical needs of those He came in contact with—we, as the Church, are called to be his hands and feet for people in need around the world. Community events like the one in Owen Sound demonstrate how we can come together, pool our abundant resources and make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate around our globe. Funding raised—and matched by the government—through this event, alongside the sale of 22 acres of soybean crop donated by two family farms, will provide food assistance to families in Yemen and assist an agriculture and livelihood project in Niger, which will impact over 15,000 households.
